J Burger
J Burger is a studio and public artist residing in New Bern, NC. Working primarily in sculpture, he creates a variety of works including large scale public art, wall pieces, custom furniture, murals, and more. His recent pieces feature the human form rendered in steel and concrete, using the hard, industrial materials in contrast to the familiar, soft forms of our own bodies. Like much of his work, the pieces explore the concepts of the self and our relationships with others, acting as small meditations on moments in daily life.
Burger received his BFA from East Carolina University in Studio Art and Philosophy. He has exhibited works in gallery shows across North Carolina, and has public works permanently on display in: The Underwater Museum of Art, Fl; the Monarch Art Trail, Santa Rosa, Fl; Sallie B Howard School, Wilson, NC; and others, as well as private collections. Outside of studio time, J Burger is the Executive Director of the Craven Arts Council & Gallery in New Bern, NC, and teaches welding and woodworking at Shop Class New Bern.
