Jane Erwin

My major body of work is the vessel form created in clay, stoneware, through slab and coil construction techniques. The vessel holds and reflects on its surface images and ideas I retain from nature and landscapes as I alter the surface with glazes and slips. I draw, blockout areas and paint the surface of the vessel. The fire of the kiln or in atmospheric firing of soda or salt, melts the glaze creating colors on the vessel's surface. I continue to experiment with the vessel form and express through it's interior and exterior landscape.
